Russell Brand has been back in character as the drunken playboy in the remake of Arthur – but appears to have confused his Eighties films, as he’s in the car from Back To The Future.

Brand, currently filming the remake of Dudley Moore’s 1981 classic, looked highly delighted on set as he messed about with the iconic gull-winged DeLorean – bearing the original ‘Outatime’ number plates.

In reference to Michael J Fox’s 1985 timetravel movie, Brand joked afterwards on his Twitter account @rustyrockets: ‘I’m going “Back ToThe Future” where for some reason it’s ok to perv over yer own Mum.’

In
Back To The Future, Fox’s character, Marty McFly, goes back to 1955 in
the DeLorean, which has been turned into a time machine by his scientist friend Doc – but his own mother accidentally falls for him as she
doesn’t know who he is.

It’s not clear whether Brand’s character in the reboot of Arthur gets to go back in the past or travel to the future – or whether he’s just so loaded, he can afford to buy the original car from the movie.

Rain or shine: The comedian plays an eccentrically attired playboy in the remake of the Dudley Moore original

On set, the former Big Brother’s
Little Brother host is seen prancing around the car wearing a red blazer, bowler hat, white shirt and white slim
trousers held up with braces in an ensemble that’s a bit ‘circus ringmaster meets A Clockwork Orange.’

The
comedian, engaged to singer Katy Perry, has already been seen on the
New York set sporting a variety of looks, ranging from wearing a top
hat, cravat and tails to appearing in just his y-fronts.

On his Twitter account, Brand also revealed that the plot involved him pretending to be a priest. He wrote: ‘I’m doing a pretend wedding in a real church while acting drunk. Forgive me Lord. And @katyperry.’

The funnyman has also had to passionately kiss co-star Greta Gerwig, who plays his love interest – in the role Liza Minnelli made her own.

He’ll be hoping the movie finally makes him a megastar in America, like it did Moore before him.

Brand new wheels: Russ gets out after taking the Back To The Future car for a spin

In the original version of the movie, Moore’s filthy rich womaniser Arthur risks losing his inheritance when he decides to marry a working class woman for love rather than money.

It co-starred John Gielgud as Arthur’s valet and Minnelli as his lower-class love.

A former heroin addict, Brand documented his debauched lifestyle in his autobiography, My Booky Wook, and was a notorious womaniser himself, although he has now settled down with his pop star fianc Katy.

The star has kept quiet about the movie’s plot, although recently claimed on Twitter to have shaved his body hair for the role.

‘Have shaved body hair for Arthur,’ he wrote. ‘I am playing him as a long, thin, new born tot.’

Brand’s first foray into movies was with his role of arrogant musician Aldous Snow in 2008 comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, before he reprised his role, this year, as the lead character, in spin-off film Get Me to The Greek.

He will also star alongside Helen Mirren in a new film adaptation of The Tempest and currently provides the voice to Dr Nefario in Steve Carrell animation Despicable Me.

Arthur is slated to appear in cinemas next year.

So he wants to be a star in America does he, well he will be for being married to Katy Perry and thats about it. The films I have seen with him in show he is as funny and exciting as a rock. It is a dissapointment that they are remaking such a great film in the first place, brand or bland as he should be known will be nowhere near a patch on Dudley Moore. PLEASE new gen hollywood give up with the remakes and make some genuine films instead of revisiting old ground that cannot be bettered.

You just know that this movie will be full of little ‘gadgets’ from previous movies, in an attempt to divert audiences attention from the fact that the lead actor has zero credibilty or screen presence. The ‘Bat-Mobile’ also features in this travesty, and will no doubt be joined by other ‘borrowed’ relics to jazz up, this dead horse of a movie?

Well I see him as naughty but gorgeous! Prefer him with some facial stubble though. I hope the film is a roaring success, it’s a great cast, much better than the original in my humble opinion.

Oh yes please Daily Mail!

Could we have some MORE free publicity for this man and his film, which obviously won’t be a patch on Dudley Moore’s original…
