Deleting an application by dragging it into the Trash leaves behind files such as preference and support data, but AppZapper deletes the app and all its associated files at the push of a button. It’s hardly essential (the files left behind are generally small and inconsequential), but if you try out a lot of software, it’s good to completely remove the ones you decide not to keep.
Apple’s been doing some early spring cleaning in the iTunes App Store when it comes to sexual content, but new developer parameters hint at a future where “explicit” applications could find their way back into the store. Apple recently removed upwards of 5,000 apps with sexually “objectionable” content from the App Store. A recent Apple Inc. job posting has revealed that the company intends to focus on bringing the iPhone OS onto new gadgets, devices and platforms. The job posting from the Cupertino, CA, company specifically calls for an engineering manager to handle “platform bring-up.” In the job description, Apple states that it’s looking for a manager “to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms.” It seems like Apple wants some outside talent with very strong technical experience, especially when it comes to bringing software onto multiple hardware devices
Your favorite shows from Hulu may be coming to the iPad after all, but only if you’re a paying customer. Sources speaking to MediaMemo say that Hulu is considering a pay version of Hulu on the iPad as part of its larger plan to eventually charge for content. The company has been entertaining the idea of introducing some kind of pay model to its TV and movie offerings since at least mid-2009 and probably earlier.
Google has just rolled out “Google Shopper,†a new mobile application for Android devices that offers a variety of different ways to search for products. In addition to basic search functionality, users can search by voice, take a picture of cover art, or scan a bar code to get detailed product information and price comparison.
Adobe Systems is working to fix a glitch in software it uses to speed up downloads of its products that could give hackers a way to push malicious programs onto a victim’s PC. According to security researcher Aviv Raff, Download Manager — a small program Adobe users to speed up the initial installation of its products — can be misused to force victims to install unwanted software on their computers. Because of an undisclosed flaw in the way Download Manager works, the “attacker can force an automatic download and installation of any executable he desires,” Raff wrote in a blog post .
