She’s had her big fat Greek wedding, and now, she’s going to reap the rewards of Mother’s Day. Variety is reporting that Walden Media has recruited Nia Vardalos to both write and star in the ensemble comedy ‘Happy Mother’s Day.’ The comedy follows four suburban moms who take a road trip to celebrate that special May day. “It’s about the pressure of doing it all,” explained Vardalos, who will play one of the four leads.

Denzel Washington will get to play one of his infrequent bad-boy roles if talks with Universal Pictures come together over the action-thriller ‘Safe House.’ Washington is in negotiations to star as a dangerous prisoner being escorted through menacing territory by a young CIA agent in the David Guggenheim-penned spy thriller, according to The Hollywood Reporter. ‘Snabba Cash’ director Daniel Espinosa is on board to direct. Joe Wright and Working Title Films are reportedly developing a live-action version of ‘The Little Mermaid,’ based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Wright and Working Title will be working off a script by Abi Morgan (‘Brick Lane’). The film is said to have been inspired by a children’s puppet theater production of the fairytale in London.
