Microsoft is working to patch the vulnerability through a software update Investigators say they are closing in on the source of the cyber attacks that hit a number of US companies, including Google, according to reports. The Financial Times suggests that US officials have tracked the author of the code used to attack the company.

Exclusive: LoveFilm, BBC iPlayer Samsung TV apps get UK release

Samsung had its European launch of its new TV range in Vienna this week, and TechRadar was on-hand to see the company unveil some new apps for the range – LoveFilm store for TVs and BBC iPlayer app. The LoveFilm app will allow users to check out LoveFilm’s online library, purchase a movie to rent and stream that movie. There’s also some nifty convergence with LoveFilm’s plain-old disc rental service, in that you can view your existing account without having to log into a computer and add DVDs or Blu-rays to the list to be delivered to your door

Google: Buzz NOT a rival to Facebook and Twitter

Google’s Bradley Horowitz has insisted that Google Buzz is not a direct competitor for the likes of Facebook and Twitter, but that it fills a niche ‘not currently met by market’. Although it has suffered a controversial birth, the company believes that the combination of various Google functionality and the third-party support will win out.

China wants new internet control agency

A senior Chinese military official has called for a new national web control agency to enforce internet monitoring methods in the country. People’s Liberation Army Major General Huang Yongyin said China needed to up its fight on online infiltration and attacks, claiming in the February issue of Chinese Cadres Tribune, a magazine published by the Communist Party’s Central Party School: “For national security, the Internet has already become a new battlefield without gunpowder.” China is back in the tech headlines again this month, following reports of a vocational school where military recruits were said to be the source of the spyware hacker attack on Google earlier this year.

MobileMe gets slightly more compatible with Mobile Safari

MobileMe has been updated to offer at least some functionality when accessing the me.com page from Mobile Safari. It doesn’t yet offer full access to MobileMe’s features via the browser, but it does allow access to the “Find My iPhone” feature from an iPhone or iPod touch
